Something to think about

We are all citizens of one world, we are all of one blood. To hate a man because he was born in another country, because he speaks a different language, or because he takes a different view on this subject or that, is a great folly. Desist, I implore you, for we are all equally human . . . Let us have but one end in view, the welfare of humanity.

-- Johann Amos Comenius (1592-1670)--

Any thoughts?

  1. It's a shame that this seems to be a hard concept for many people to grasp. If we could but realize that we all share in this thing called life, maybe we would show a little more respect for one another.
    I like this quote.

  2. Kit Kat,

It's discouraging, but I think that quote is even more appropriate today than it was a decade or so ago. Or maybe, I'm more aware now than I was. Or, possibly events have forced more people out into the open now.

I live in Arizona, and I'm dismayed and saddened by what's happening here. The State Supt. of schools has just engineered a ruling that he hopes will eliminate all ethnic and women's studies groups from schools. He claims, with no evidence whatsoever, (and he admits he's never even attended one class) that such classes foster hatred and resentment of other groups (he means whites, of course).

  3. That is horrible!
I actually don't know what to say to that.
Generally those groups are not exclusive, they are very welcoming to students of the other sex or race who want to participate and learn.
    I hope it doesn't work..

  4. It's not clear as to what happens next. His ruling referred to those courses and indicated what he saw as problems. Comments from educators around the state have been negative and insistent that he was wrong. People seem to think that only those courses that do those evil things will be dropped. That's the optimistic POV.

I fear the idiocy has just begun.
