A Minute Meditation

"I dream of giving birth to a child who will ask, 'Mother, what was war?'"

-- Eve Merriam, poet and writer (1916-1992) --

Has this ever been better said?

Will this dream ever come true?

What little I know of human history makes me pessimistic.

  1. Fred, let me be the naysayer. Every war in history has been followed by peace. Yes, the silver-lining to the dark cloud is the historically proven reality. (All of that optimism, however, falls prey to thoughts about complete apocalyptic WMD annihilation.) I guess we have choices to make.

    1. Tim,

I think warfare is an integral part of our hard wiring as long as we can separate humans into us and them.

    3. Mudpuddle,

Good point. Those have been flash points for wars and, in fact, still are. Another is the boundless egotism of various rulers who drag their countries into wars.
