  1. Fred,

Are you a native of Arizona? If not, how long did it take you to get used to such heat?

  2. Cheryl,

No, I'm not a native of either Tucson or Arizona. I was born and raised in Chicago.

I moved to Tucson in 1968.

In Chicago, one spends much time outside in summer and much time indoors in winter, huddled around a heat source. In Tucson, one spends much time outdoors in winter and much time indoors in summer, huddled around a cooling device.

I find, as I get older, I'm less tolerant of the heat and think longingly of high mountain forests and cool lakes and perhaps the need of a sweater or flannel shirt throughout most of the day.

By the way, how bad was Hurricane Irene where you are?

  3. Fred,

I'm in the Atlanta area, and we had sunny skies in the low 90's here. ( It's a humid heat, unlike yours.) We were lucky that the hurricane missed us. We had enough trouble dodging tornadoes in the Spring.

Chicago, huh? I lived in the opposite side of Illinois (Quad Cities area) for 12 years. I remember the entire month of January there being below zero. So Atlanta's been a big change for me, too. I can thrive pretty much anywhere.

  4. Cheryl,

I spent several days in Atlanta once, many years ago. I was visiting a friend. It was summer, and I was glad to get back to Tucson, where the temps might be higher, but not so muggy.

I just can't handle the humidity.
